Sustainability – Protecting our Resources

Making Sustainable Practices Part of Every Business Decision

Sustainability is about preserving the planet -- land, air, water and people. From "big picture" issues like climate change driven by greenhouse gases, to local issues like coffee and cocoa farmers earning a decent wage, Kraft is finding ways to have positive impacts on the world we live in.

Focusing on the Areas Where We Can Have the Greatest Impact

To help prioritize our sustainability activities, we are focusing on six areas where we can have the greatest impact and that have the greatest impact on our business: agricultural commodities, packaging, energy, water, waste and transportation & distribution.

Setting Quantifiable Goals Helps Us Remain Focused and Provides Us with a Way to Measure Our Success

Our short term goals in these areas are simply stated. We want to:

  • Reduce energy usage and energy-related carbon dioxide emissions
  • Reduce plant waste and water use
  • Reduce packaging material

We're also identifying opportunities to support agricultural sustainability in the areas of coffee, cocoa and dairy.

Measurable Progress in Environmental Performance

We are measuring the impact of our actions in key environmental areas. We rely on qualified, independent, third parties to tell us how we're doing.
