Q. Can my agency apply for a grant if we did not receive an invitation to apply?
A. Any not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization that operates programs that fit within our geographic scope, priority focus areas and meets our eligibility requirements is welcome to apply.
Q. As a multi-service organization, can my agency apply under multiple focus areas?
A. No. A single organization may only apply under one focus area.
Q. My organization is a residential care facility providing 24/7, can we apply for funding?
A. We will not support programs that take place in a group home or residential care facility that provides only 24/7 care, with programs strictly for its residents. Programs open to and including the general community would be considered eligible.
Q. My organization is the fundraising arm of the local hospital, library or school; are we eligible to apply?
A. We will support agencies with a separate 501(c)(3) fundraising entity as long as funds requested are directly supporting the related beneficiary organization.
Q. I am a faith-based institution; can I apply for funding?
A. Faith-based organizations whose services are provided to anyone without regard to religious affiliation or required participation in faith-based activities are eligible to apply. Faith-based organizations that do not have their own 501(c)(3) documentation must include the "Group Ruling" documentation noting their relation to the parent organization with tax-exempt status.
Q. Do I have to participate in the Application Assistance call in order to apply?
A. Agencies are encouraged to participate in the technical assistance calls although participation is not required. The calls are informative and provide an overview of the application process, focus area guidelines and answer many commonly asked questions about eligibility.
Q. Is there a limit to the number of pages for the total proposal?
A. The entire proposal narrative should not exceed 12 pages, and the brief biographies for key program staff are limited to one page. There are no page limits for other required attachments and materials.
Q. What do you consider general operating costs? How is this different from program costs?
A. Costs are considered general operating if they support the overall work of the agency, rather than for a specific purpose or program. Grants will only support program or program-related expenses (i.e., program staff salaries, supplies, equipment, rent/utilities, associated with the program, etc.).
Q. The guidelines state that applications cannot be delivered by hand. Can proposals be submitted via overnight delivery services?
A. Proposals are accepted via overnight delivery services although early submission by standard mail is encouraged. Standard or express delivery is accepted as long as completed proposal packets are received by the close of business deadline.
